The Walt Disney Company announced Thursday that Disneyland Park and Disneyland California Adventure will be closed for the weekend out of caution. Laemmle also completed the construction of Universal Studios Hollywood's first theme park at Oak Crest Ranch in 1915. Leased from Oak Canyon Ranch, it became the second largest studio in the US, after Universal's Hollywood Studios. After a visit to the newly acquired West Coast businesses, the studio was renamed Universal Studios on July 15, 1965.

About 70% of the studios are located on an unincorporated county island known as Universal City, while the rest are located within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. About half of Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando and Universal Florida are outside the Los Angeles city limits, but about half of the studio is within them.
How Jay Stein, MCA and Universal invented the Modern Theme Park: In the mid-1960s, Walt Disney wanted to build his own theme park based on the concept that began at Disneyland. Disney expanded its theme park empire with the creation of the sprawling Walt Disney World in Anaheim, California, and then with Universal Studios Hollywood to Orlando, Florida.
